GREENER SCHOOLS FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: CLIMATE CHANGE EDUCATION IN

Regarding 2030 agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals, seek to reconcile economic growth, environmental balance and social progress, ensuring that all people have the same opportunities and can lead a better life without compromising the planet.

The influence of human activities on the climate to meet these needs is undeniable. It is a real fact that our actions affect our planet not only at a local level, but also at a global level.

Sustainable development represents the transition from today’s society to a more environmentally friendly one. With the world facing a potential climate crisis – water shortages, drought, hunger, extreme weather – sustainable development goals are to ensure a commitment and balance between economic growth, preservation of the environment and social well-being.

What can we do?
The contribution to sustainable development begins with an awareness process through the calculation of our personal carbon footprint. And schools are the key to initiate change. Schools teach values, habits and customs that go beyond the school area. At school it is possible to find out different ways to mitigate climate change, for example, through renewable energy, building smart buildings, gardens, lighting systems or water management.

Even though the contributions of a certain area or school may seem insignificant compared to the global problem, individual actions are necessary to maintain and improve the life quality of communities. Unfortunately, it took us long time to realize that taking no action affects us negatively. Sustainability on our planet is threatened.

In this course, teachers will find a lot of materials to guide them in this important mission. Climate change not only poses environmental challenges but also affects the economic, social and cultural aspects of our lives, affecting, for example, our landscapes, drinking water and food supply; therefore, teaching only the science behind climate change is not enough, we must involve all topics under a multidisciplinary approach to raise awareness and tackle climate change.

The course will help you developing real actions that help students to reduce their ecological footprint and to show consideration for themselves and for others. Is our school community part of the problem or part of the solution? Let's help your school community to become a committed place with the environmental wellness. Through small changes we are able to determine the response to this crucial question.

METHODOLOGY
The course is aimed for teachers and school staff from pre-school level to primary, secondary, vocational, adult and special needs education, staff of non-government organizations, government and policy makers and company staff. Non-native English trainers expecting participants to have at least B1 level of English proficiency.

The course methodology will have daily motivation activities, self-knowledge, self improvement, working in pairs and groups, simulations and networking not only in the classroom but also in outdoor activities. The methodology will transform every teacher in an empower version of them as an environment agent who cares about their pupils’ development but also about how to create a better and more fair society.

The course will have lectures, seminars and workshops to ensure full comprehension and every day assignment support. In addition, participants will work and receive a guide to implement this subject or simply to have fun with their pupils doing activities indoor and outdoor.

At the end of the course, the company will provide the participants an attendance certificate including the detailed information about the course, e.g. title, program and schedule. In addition, a Europass Mobility Certificate can be added on request.

At the end of the course you will be able to prepare an action plan to raise awareness within the school community and also among the students regarding the cause, effects and risks of both short- and long-term climate change. Over the course, we will also share successful experiences of other schools that may be a useful source of inspiration.

This course will also prepare you to be a change agent and to promote climate change mitigation and adaptation actions at school through diagnosis tools and action plans.

The company will receive participants on Sunday afternoon and give them a brief introduction of the Erasmus Week as well as the documents needed for the course. Besides the participants will take the chance to meet participant of other PMS courses in a Networking activity. On the Monday morning all participants will be able to explain their own school and KA1 project to all participants and work all together to set up future eTwinnings or even KA2 projects and Accreditations.

During the week, the course contents will be developed with engaged lessons and motivating activities to do with students. Furthermore, participants will be involved in cultural activities during the week.

DAY 6 – FRIDAY: SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS AND SCHOOL IMPLEMENTATION.
